Suffield to hold meeting on $2M estimate to remove hazardous materials from former Bridge Street School

SUFFIELD — First Selectwoman Melissa Mack is holding a special meeting Tuesday to address the recent $2 million remediation estimate to remove hazardous materials from the former Bridge Street School as it is prepped to be turned into a community center, a reuse of the site that voters approved at referendum last fall.

The cost of the remediation exceeds the 10 percent contingency allotted for the $8.4 million project approved at referendum to convert the long vacant school into a community center, and Mack said a town commission is analyzing “alternatives to complete abatement.”

The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at the Suffield Senior Center, 145 Bridge St.
